Pink Calla Lily
Copyright © Richard Munson
The Pink Calla Lily was absolutely pristine when it was purchased and took it home to photograph. It was with a certain degree of determination that Photographer Richard Munson sought to produce a photograph that would show the flower as close as possible to its nearly flawless condition. He was able to photograph the flower in soft and delicate lighting that complimented the subtle curves and textures of the flower. The contours of the flower and the soft and subtle lighting yielded a marvelously delicate and expressive image that forever captures the beauty and elegance of this lily.

Mr. Lincoln Rose

The Mr. Lincoln Rose offers tremendously large red blossoms with non-uniform color that makes them appear to have great texture. The dark red blossoms often measure over seven inches in diameter but quickly lose their prestine shape, especially on warm days. In the many years that Photographer Richard Munson has been photographing roses he has never been able to capture an attractive blossom of this rose. It seems he has had bad luck with mold, insects and changing weather conditions. This time, however, he was able to capture a splendid example of this rose. When captured in its prime this is indeed a marvelous rose, infused with tremendous detail and subtle variations in color. The blossoms are so bold in size and color that they are natural photographic subjects. He was happy that he was finally able to find one and he enjoyed the experience.

Sun Flare Rose Closeup in the Rain

The Sun Flare Rose Closeup in the Rain wonderous vibrant yellow flowers throughout the spring and summer. This particular spring morning it had been raining lightly and Photographer Richard Munson decided to try to capture some pictures of roses that were covered in mist. This yellow rose blossom was a wonderful candidate. As rain fell lightly all about him, he waited patiently for the large pool of water near the bottom of the blossom fall. He had hoped to catch it and freeze it in mid-air as it fell. He took several pictures, inlcuding this one, as he waited for the drop to fall. It never did (that is to say, it outlasted him). It is unlikely he would have been fast enough on the shutter to capture the drop in mid-air anyway. The wonderful radiance of the yellow in this rose in the muted light of a rainstorm makes him glad he captured several images as he waited for that infernal drop to fall. In the end he thinks he got both a wonderful, vibrant image and the last laugh.

Lighthouse Against Threatening Skies

The Lighthouse Against Threatening Skies is a photograph of Yaquina Head Lighthouse located outside Newport, Oregon along the central Oregon coast. It is an exact copy of the Pigeon Point Lighthouse along the central California coast. On this particular afternoon Photographer Richard Munson was set up in front of a small grass covered knoll waiting for some interesting light as sunset approached. He took occasional pictures as the weather grew more ominous. The dark clouds you see in the picture slowly worked their way overhead and unleashed a torrent of rain (He ran like crazy). This enticing image seems to evoke one of the primary purposes of a lighthouse; to protect and guide foolish photographers during hostile weather.

Panoramic Sunset on the Pacific Coast

The Panoramic Sunset on the Pacific Coast was taken along the shoreline at Santa Cruz, California. Photographer Richard Munson was very delighted to see this gorgeous sunset developing over the Pacific. As the sun sank below the clouds, streaks of light shot skyward and the entire sky turned to marvelous shades of blue, pink, and orange. The sea reflected the color of the sky but the shoreline turned to silhouette behind the stronger light of the sunset. Photographer Richard Munson loved the soft interplay of light, colors, and shadow that he was afforded the opportunity to capture on film in this image.
This image has a print size of 7.5x17.5 and the finished frame size is 10x20.
